Erik Alexander Schmidt is a Greensboro, NC-based percussionist active across many areas in the arts, including New Chamber Music, Orchestral, Opera, Theatre, Dance, Free Improvisation, Arabic Classical, and Original Composition. A founding member of both Sounding Board and Winnfield Quartet, Erik brings an adventurous and collaborative spirit to contemporary performance.
He has been the percussionist for the Lorena Guillén Tango Ensemble for over eight years, and regularly performs with leading regional ensembles including the Greensboro Symphony, Winston-Salem Symphony, Western Piedmont Symphony, Greensboro Opera, and the À La Carte Music Series. His work also extends into theatre, with credits at Community Theatre Greensboro, High Point Community Theatre, Theatre Alliance of Winston-Salem, and Elon University Theatre.
Erik has collaborated with a range of composers such as Steven Landis, Jr., Alejandro Rutty, and Mark Engebretson, as well as choreographers Dylan Reddish and Nicole Lawson, highlighting his commitment to cross-disciplinary work and the creation of new music.
